“Kawasaki is a brand that I’ve been connected to for many years. In fact, the first new bike I bought when I was racing motocross in Australia in 1987 was a KX80 and as I raced through the ranks I moved on to KX125 and then a KX250. My goal was always to race on track, but back then in Australia you couldn’t race on tarmac until you were 17 years old.

I began my tarmac career racing 250cc production bikes, but my big break came in 1998 when I finished second in the Australian Supersport Championship. It was a real privateer effort with just me and my dad running the bike against some big factory supported teams. The following year, I signed for Kawasaki Australia, winning the Supersport class and lost the Superbike to Steve Martin on the factory Ducati!

They were proper bikes with battles between the tyre manufacturers as well, so it really helped kick my career off as I then signed to the factory World Supersport team for three years, winning the title in 2001. After that I moved to MotoGP with the ZX-RR, it was tough as we were the only team on Dunlop tyres and it was really a modified Superbike but we still had some good races mixing it up with the V5 Honda’s and beating the Suzuki’s a few times.

I fell into my Crew Chief job by accident really working for Nick Morgan of MSS Kawasaki in British Superbikes before moving to WSB with PJ Jacobsen in World Supersport. I’m working with Randy Krummenacher as well as working to improve the link between the Italian team and Kawasaki Europe. So far it’s been really good and we’ve had some great results. Randy is a breath of fresh air too, he’s so motivated and just loves riding!

Alongside being a Crew Chief, I’ve also taken a turn at mentoring. I worked with young Mason Law in the British Championship, he is a real talent and growing into a very professional and mature rider…it also just so happens he’s only ever ridden Kawasaki on the tarmac and is part of the Team Green project!

Outside of racing, I’m doing plenty of track day instructing with Focused Events in Spain and Italy as well as spending as much time at home as possible with my three kids! Life is great at the moment, I’m mixing it between my place on the Isle of Man as well as our second home in Italy where my wife is from…oh and Christmas in Australia is pretty good too!
